Gers ace Smith glad to be back

The 23-year-old, whose time at Ibrox has been dogged with pelvic and ankle injuries, returned to action as a left-midfielder in the 3-1 SPL win over Motherwell on Saturday which took the Govan men to within a point of leaders Celtic. Smith, whose last SPL outing before the weekend came in an Old Firm clash in December 2006, was recalled by Walter Smith after the Rangers boss found himself with nine players out through injury. And the left-back is hoping to stay in the side for the title run-in. He said: "I had a word with the gaffer on Friday and he said he was thinking about playing me there so it was great to be back. "It has been a long, long time and it has been difficult what with injuries and then not getting a game. "When I wasn't involved I didn't even go to matches. I'd sit in front of the television watching Soccer Saturday so it feels great to be back. "To be honest I thought I might not get the chance to play out there again. "I don't think many people thought I would play for the club again because there is such a big squad and the manager has so many options. "It was always going to take a lot of injuries but that's what happened and hopefully I did well enough and took my chance. "I would love to be involved in the title run-in as would everybody sitting in our dressing room."
