Former Birmingham manager Gary Rowett has confirmed he has held talks with Rangers over their managerial vacancy.
Rowett, who controversially lost his Blues job in December after Gianfranco Zola was lined up to replace him, is understood to be vying with other contenders including Portuguese coach Pedro Caixinha and former Ibrox boss Alex McLeish.
Rowett told BBC Sport: "It is public that I met Rangers. Again, it is a compliment clubs like that are willing to meet me.
"It doesn't mean to say they want me to be their manager. I just had a conversation with the club.
"It is like anything, especially being an out of work manager, people say 'would you like to meet?' It was important for me to go and meet them and share my vision and my philosophy.
"I have done that with a few clubs who are looking for their next manager."
Rangers were thought to be closing in on Caixinha, who manages Al-Gharafa in Qatar, but they remain without a long-term successor for Mark Warburton with five days left to prepare for Sunday's trip to Celtic Park.
They also look to have been frustrated in attempts to lure Southampton's head of scouting and recruitment, Ross Wilson, to be their director of football.
Paul Mitchell, who has been serving a long notice period in a scouting role at Tottenham, has been tipped to join Rangers if the bid for Wilson fails.
