Future keeps Gers fans on edge

Rangers fans are unable to enjoy the fruits of last season's success because they are fearful of what the future may hold, according to John MacMillan, general secretary of the Rangers Supporters Association.

The Ibrox men captured the Co-operative Insurance Cup by beating St Mirren in the final before winning their second successive Clydesdale Bank Premier League title. However, the uncertainty over the club's future remains with London-based property developer Andrew Ellis claiming he will step aside from his possible £33million buyout if a rival bidder was better placed to take them forward.

"After winning the league for the second time in a row, you should be looking forward to next season," said MacMillan. "But fans are asking, 'where are we going to be next season?'"

There are also doubts over the future of manager Walter Smith, who, along with his backroom staff, have been working without a contract since January.

MacMillan added: "It's very messy. It's been going on too long and there doesn't seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel.

"It is disturbing at a time when the fans are being asked to renew their season tickets.

"I would imagine they will be down in numbers until we find out what's going on.

"Is Kris Boyd the next player to go? Will Madjid Bougherra also be away?

"We can ill-afford to lose any more players.

"The squad was under pressure last season but the players adapted well under the circumstances and they deserve great credit."
