Ferguson to retain captaincy
02 Apr 2009 - 12:56:33
Scotland manager George Burley insists that he will not strip Barry Ferguson of the captaincy.
The Rangers midfielder, and goalkeeper Allan McGregor, were relegated to the substitute's bench for Scotland's 2-1 win against Iceland on Wednesday after going on a drinking binge after the weekend defeat to the Netherlands.
However, Burley said: "Barry's still our captain when he's playing. It all depends on games and availability of people. It's a team game and Barry's very much a part of it.
"You've got to make some tough decisions at times. I knew it was going to be a different type of game to the game over in Holland, and thankfully it worked out.
"Certain things happen and it was dealt with, simple as that."
