Ferguson suffers return woe
22 Apr 2009 - 08:48:02
Axed captain Barry Ferguson's Rangers future is again in doubt after he lasted just minutes of comeback appearance for the reserves on Tuesday.
Ferguson, 31, was stripped of the club captaincy and saw his Ibrox future placed in doubt after being banned from the Scotland national team for his high-profile misdemeanours alongside team-mate Allan McGregor while on international duty last month.
Both players were banned for two weeks by angry Gers boss Walter Smith but made their comebacks in a second-string game against Hearts on Tuesday.
However, Ferguson suffered a suspected torn calf muscle in the opening moments and if scans confirm the severity injury, he will not play again this season.
"Barry went off with a suspected torn calf muscle," confirmed reserve team coach Tommy Wilson.
"He felt something go when he was running and left the stadium with the doctor before the end."
