Ferguson set for Gers return
16 Oct 2008 - 09:13:24
Rangers captain Barry Ferguson could be back in action within the next fortnight, as he nears full fitness following summer ankle surgery.
The 30-year-old has yet to feature for the Gers this season, but is set for a reserve team outing against St Mirren and could then be in contention to face Hamilton Academical in just over a week's time.
Boss Walter Smith told the club's official website: "Barry is getting close now. He will have a full week's training and, all going well, he will play in the reserve game on Tuesday.
"The physios are working very hard with him and they have been stepping up his training and I hope that next week will be the start of the comeback for him.
"Barry coming back gives us more options. Some people might think it gives us problems in terms of who to leave out, but we see it as a positive.
"We obviously have an idea of how the team is going to play and once Barry comes back, it will give us an opportunity of working within that and see where we go from there."
