Ferguson makes solid return
22 Oct 2008 - 07:31:18
Rangers captain Barry Ferguson successfully came through just over an hour of his reserve team return to action after a long-term ankle injury.
The 30-year-old midfielder helped the Gers second string to a 3-0 win over St Mirren on Tuesday afternoon, but afterwards admitted that he is still some way short of the fitness levels needed for a first-team outing.
He told the club's official website: "I felt sharp but I can get sharper. I'm as fit as I can be in terms of running and my ankle won't get any stronger, but match-sharpness is a totally different thing.
"I think I'll need a few more games before I'm totally up to speed. I don't think I'm up to full fitness for starting a game.
"Everything went as well as I thought it could and I felt I did okay. It has been hard not playing because football is my life, but I did all the rehab I was told to do.
"I got just over an hour and hopefully I'll get another game next week. My ankle is pretty strong now."
