Fairtyale aspect of Friendly Worship.

Rangers v Chelsea had a distinctly other-worldly whiff to it. 47,379 people were at Ibrox this weekend for a friendly; a meaningless kick-about only worthy as a source of much-needed funds for the Club. This figure is almost 20,000 more than turned up for the Champions League qualifier against Malmo and the Chelsea crowd will not be beaten this season for a European game, assuming we can find some form and limp into the group stages of the Europa League. Fans clapped and cheered wildly as the undoubtedly talented Chelsea millionaires passed the ball to each other and executed other footballing basics so long denied to the paying punters in Govan. Frank Lampard was given an ovation as he left the field which would have embarrassed a King and which seems particularly interesting when set against the scant notice granted to genuine Rangers legends when introduced at half-time. And John Terry - the much-maligned adulterer and target for fan vitriol – showed his good side by donating his boots to a young female fan. The Rangers support went for a big sleep and everyone lived happily ever after. Wake me up when we’re taking this seriously again, please.
