Errant Gers duo suspended
03 Apr 2009 - 17:11:28
Rangers have suspended both Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor for two weeks without pay due to their conduct while on international duty with Scotland.
Ferguson has also been stripped of the club captaincy by the Gers, with both men having been censured for a drinking spree following the 3-0 defeat in the Netherlands.
McGregor and Ferguson were then axed for the midweek clash with Iceland and were seen making gestures towards TV cameras at Hampden Park.
Gers chief executive Martin Bain said: "The overall conduct of the players during the last week while on Scotland duty has, regrettably, fallen considerably short of the standards expected by Rangers Football Club and our supporters and has brought the club into disrepute.
"The management of the club has taken the view that this has damaged both Rangers and Scotland and is unacceptable.
"Even though our club is entering the critical stage of the league season and the later stages of the Scottish Cup, appropriate disciplinary action was required."
