Edu permit boost for Gers

Rangers have been given the green light to complete the signing of Maurice Edu after being granted a work permit for the American midfielder.

The Gers agreed a £2.6million fee for the 22-year-old FC Toronto star with Major League Soccer last week.

Edu has already agreed terms on a five-year contract at Ibrox and has now been given permission to complete his move to the Scottish Premier League.

The highly-rated USA international will become the third midfielder signed by manager Walter Smith in recent days.

He has already snapped up Pedro Mendes from Portsmouth and Fulham's former loanee Steven Davis in permanent deals.
