Edu: Points are all that matters

Maurice Edu was quick to point out that results are all that matters after his goal earned Rangers a scrappy 1-0 win over Hamilton on Saturday.[LNB] Edu admits it was far from a vintage display from Rangers against an Accies side who felt they deserved a point after a James McArthur effort was ruled offside.[LNB]Edu, though, is not bothered.[LNB]"It wasn't the greatest performance but we're pleased to get the three points and edge closer to retaining the title," said the USA midfielder.[LNB]"We would like a good performance in every game but, at this stage of the season, it comes down getting the results when you need them and we were able to do that."[LNB]Edu's goal followed the memorable winner he netted against Celtic in February and he has targeted more before the end of the season.[LNB]He said: "It's nice to help the team out by getting a goal.[LNB]"It was good play leading up to it and luckily I was able to get on the end of it and finish the ball off.[LNB]"I think it's important to chip in with goals from the midfield and Lee McCulloch has done that well this season and has a few goals already.[LNB]"When I come into the team, I just try to help out whenever possible and, if I can get a goal, that's the icing the cake.[LNB]"To get the goal that ended up winning the game was a great feeling and hopefully there is more to come."[LNB]Injury problems have meant less game time than he would have liked this season but Edu believes his lack of games can help push a battle-weary Rangers side over the finish line.[LNB]He said: "It's been a long season and because we have a small squad there haven't been as many changes and a lot of the guys have played a lot of minutes.[LNB]"Me coming in at this late stage of the season, having missed so much of the season, it's like I'm just getting started.[LNB]"I'm eager to play and bring a little bit of freshness."[LNB]Meanwhile, Hamilton skipper Alex Neil believes McArthur can be a success in the Premier League as he prepares for a trial at Wigan.[LNB]He said: "If he does as well as everyone at our club thinks he can do, then there is no reason why he can't go down there and play at that level.[LNB]"He's only 22 but he has played 150 games so he is experienced. People look at his age and think he is a young kid but he has played a lot of football.[LNB]"I think his performances show that, he knows what he's doing."[LNB]And Neil insists life will go on at Hamilton if McArthur does opt for a move south this summer.[LNB]He added: "It was the same as James McCarthy last year, he was a great player and he moved down to Wigan and has done great.[LNB]"But the club moves on and that's just the nature of football.[LNB]"We give these young lads an opportunity to show what they can do and, if they are good enough, they will move on and play at a higher level."
