Edu looking up

Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu is confident he can put his recent poor form firmly behind him and soon be back to his best.

The United States international is well aware he has not been on top form lately, as he suffers what he refers to as a 'bit of a funk'. But Edu claims his own confidence is still high and he still has plenty of faith in his own ability as he attempts to put a difficult spell behind him.

He said: "There will always be periods when you have ups and downs but as long as you stay mentally strong and you still have the desire to win that can carry you a long way."

Edu added:"It's been an up-and-down season for me. I felt I started pretty strongly but I've had a bit of a dip in form recently. That's part of the game though. It's important for me to keep my head and keep working hard for the team. Sometimes you hit a bad patch of form and it would be easy for your head to drop.

"But if things aren't going well for you technically there are still things that you can contribute to the team. You can make up for it in some way with work-rate and effort. Right now, I'm just trying to keep focused on working hard for the team and trying to get myself out of this bit of a funk that I'm in."

"I'm a confident individual and I believe in myself and my ability. When you go through these patches of form it is definitely difficult and it can be frustrating but you have to remain confident and believe in yourself. It's difficult at times but I'm confident and I know I'll get myself out of this situation. I just hope it's sooner rather than later."

Edu also has confidence in Rangers' ability to deliver a third consecutive Clydesdale Bank Premier League title. The destination of the silverware is still too close to call, with Rangers boasting a single-point advantage at the summit ahead of Celtic's game in hand at Inverness on Wednesday night.

Edu told Rangers News: "We just have to try to win the rest of our games. We're still confident that the title can come back to Ibrox but it's down to us to win our games to make that happen.

"Points can still be dropped. I think if anyone had looked outside the Old Firm game and said both sides would win all their remaining matches, I would say they were a little naive.

"Over the past few seasons we have seen points being dropped in numerous different games so what is important for us is that we remain consistent. If we finish the season strongly, then we hope that at the end we're celebrating at Ibrox."
