Edu in the hunt for more goals

Maurice Edu vowed to chip in with more goals following his superb strike in Rangers' 4-0 win over Dunfermline in the Scottish Premier League.[LNB] The midfielder netted from an impressive long-ranger after fellow American Carlos Bocanegra had opened the scoring at East End Park, before Steven Naismith grabbed a double to ensure a comfortable victory.[LNB]Edu now has two goals for the season after finding the back of the net in an SPL match at Inverness and he believes he has plenty more to offer in that respect.[LNB]He said: "As a midfielder scoring some goals is definitely something I can add to my game, whether it be long range shots or getting into the box.[LNB]"It's important as a midfielder to try to add a little bit more to your game and it's definitely something I can do through goals.[LNB]"It will help the team and take a little bit of pressure off the attacking players, the wide players and strikers, if we start chipping in with some more goals from midfield."[LNB]However, Edu admits he was the last person likely to be on the scoresheet based on his efforts in training the day before.[LNB]He added: "It was funny because on Friday we were doing some shooting in training and I was kind of all over the place and getting a little bit of stick for it.[LNB]"But the play just developed and Jelavic laid the ball off to me and I just took advantage of the opportunity."[LNB]Edu has struggled with his form but has shown an improvement in recent games and says he knew himself he had to do better.[LNB]He said: "It's not so much what other people say as myself. I know what I'm capable of doing and I just wanted to up my level.[LNB]"I know what my standards should be and it's just a matter of me performing and being pleased with that and helping the team and making sure I'm contributing to the team and helping us to win."[LNB]The victory over Dunfermline provided a much-needed morale-boost after the holders suffered a shock Scottish Communities League Cup exit to Irn-Bru First Division side Falkirk.[LNB]Edu said: "It was a great result, especially after the disappointment in midweek. It was important for us to bounce back.[LNB]"The whole team - the starting eleven and the guys who came off the bench - all showed a tremendous amount of determination and will to win and I think that's what got us over the line. We played some good football as well.[LNB]"Playing for a club like this, you know what the expectations are. You come here and you want to win things so to be out of the competition, we felt gutted.[LNB]"We wanted to prove [a point] to ourselves and the fans and I think we did that. We bounced back and kept our heads high and put together a solid 90 minutes of football."[LNB]Meanwhile, Austin McCann played down an incident between himself and Naismith, after television cameras apparently showed the Rangers player catching the Pars defender on the face with an elbow.[LNB]McCann said: "I just thought it was accidental at the time. I got up straight away and got on with it.[LNB]"I got caught on the lip but these things happen. He said sorry straight away so that's why I assumed it was an accident."
