Double injury blow rocks Rangers

Edu has had a successful operation after sustaining knee ligament damage against Dundee United, which resulted in the United States international missing last week's Homecoming Scottish Cup win. The midfielder is expected to be sidelined for at least three months, meaning he has also been forced to withdraw from the national team's World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica and Honduras and the Confederations Cup tournament later this month. Fellow midfielder Thomson - tipped for the captain's armband with Barry Ferguson's future still unclear - is also likely to be out of action when the new campaign gets under way. He missed most of the season after suffering a cruciate injury back in November and, despite making good progress with Murray Park physios, may have to wait until September to make his comeback.
