Davis stars as Gers win again
30 Jan 2010 - 16:57:43
Rangers remain ten points clear of Celtic at the top of the table but only after they were made to work hard by Falkirk before claiming all three points with a 3-0 win against the rock-bottom Bairns.
Former Aston Villa and Fulham midfielder Steven Davis netted with a sublime 20-yard free-kick in the first half before John Fleck doubled the Gers' lead before Davis set up the third goal which was netted by Steven Whittaker just past the hour mark.
Celtic once again flattered to deceive as they toiled to a 1-0 victory at Hamilton Academical. Morten Rasmussen scored his first goal for Tony Mowbray's team when he came off the substitute's bench to net in the 67th minute.
The Bhoys were awarded a late penalty but Tomas Cerny made a good save to deny Marc-Antoine Fortune.
Dundee United are fourth after securing a point from a thrilling 4-4 draw at Kilmarnock. The visitors took an early lead when Prince Buaben fired home his second goal of the season only for Simon Ford to head home Killie's equaliser almost immediately from Craig Bryson's cross.
Two goals by Craig Conway put the Terrors 3-1 ahead but Killie hit back to lead 4-3 early in the second half thanks to efforts by former Sunderland striker Kevin Kyle, Italian defender Manuel Pascali and Bryson.
However, the points were shared after Jon Daly netted from the penalty spot in the 66th minute.
Motherwell made it an afternoon to forget for their former manager Mark McGhee as they eased to a 3-0 victory against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
John Sutton gave the Steelmen a 29th-minute lead against the run of play with a close-range strike and two goals early in the second half by Lukas Jutkiewicz and John Sutton helped the visitors secure their seven victory of the campaign.
Sol Bamba made a disastrous start on his return to the Hibernian team following his stint with Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations by scoring an early own goal to give St Mirren the lead at Easter Road.
However, Liam Miller brought Hibs level before half-time and a last-gasp Jack Ross own goal helped John Hughes' third-placed team win 2-1.
Jim Jefferies' first game on his return to Hearts was a poor affair with the Jambos slumping to a 1-0 defeat at St Johnstone, former Gretna striker Kenny Deuchar netting the only goal of the match early in the second half.
