Rangers midfielder Steven Davis admits he misses playing in the Premier League.
The Northern Ireland international joined Walter Smith's side from Fulham in 2008 in a £3million move after a successful loan spell at the club he supported as a schoolboy. Davis, 25, is one of Rangers' most saleable assets and his revelation will do little to calm the nerves of Light Blues fans who have already seen six players leave the cash-strapped club this summer.
"I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss playing Premier League-standard teams every week and it would be hard not to miss it," said Davis, who has been recently linked with Everton.
"Without being disrespectful to the SPL, I think everybody connected with Rangers would like nothing more than to be taking on sides of that calibre all the time.
"That's why we find our pre-season games against the big English sides so enjoyable. It's a real opportunity for us to show what we're capable of.
"Sadly, I think that's all we'll be able to settle for because as much as I'd love to see us move to the Premier League, I don't think it will ever happen.
"There are pros and cons attached to the argument about whether us and Celtic should be allowed to join it or not.
"For our club to keep progressing and making the strides we'd like to make, I think we'd perhaps need to be part of the Premier League but I just don't see it happening.
"Because of that, we need to make sure we keep qualifying for the Champions League instead.
"Taking part in that competition is such a big draw when you're at Rangers."
