Rangers midfielder Steven Davis hopes to be joined by new faces after committing his future to the Scottish champions.

Davis gave manager Ally McCoist a further lift ahead of start of the new Scottish Premier League season on Saturday by signing a new five-year contract on Tuesday. The 26-year-old Northern Ireland international follows team-mates Allan McGregor and Steven Whittaker, who also penned new deals over the summer.

"I'm delighted to get the deal signed and sealed and obviously I'm happy to commit my future to the club in the long term," said Davis.

"We've got quite a settled team from last season and a lot of us are on long-term deals now which is important. It's just a case of adding to our group now as it's a wee bit thin at the moment and it will be nice to get some fresh faces on board."

Manager Ally McCoist is keen to complete a deal to bring defender Carlos Cuellar back to the club before Rangers begin their title defence at home to Hearts.

The club are currently in discussions with the Spaniard, who left the club for Villa in an £8million deal three years ago, after the midlands side accepted a £2million bid.

McCoist said: "The ball is in Carlos' court. We hope to hear from him sooner or later. Carlos' representatives know it would suit us to hear quickly and I would like answer in the next 24 hours."

Rangers have also been linked with their former striker Kenny Miller, who left them for Turkish side Bursaspor in January.

McCoist added: "I don't know what the situation with Kenny is.

"I know he wants to come home and I would hazard a guess that Bursaspor may not be the easiest to deal with. There is nothing to my knowledge at this moment in time."
