Davis delighted Smith is staying

Rangers confirmed at Monday's AGM that Smith and his backroom staff of Ally McCoist and Kenny McDowall will continue to work at the club without new deals when their current contracts expire in January.[LNB]The club's financial plight, as they continue the search for a new owner, has been well documented and Davis believes the news that Smith is staying demonstrates just how much he is committed to Rangers.[LNB]"I think it's great," said the midfielder. "You don't see that a lot in football these days.[LNB]"It's great that they can continue the work because the players enjoy working under them."[LNB]Davis believes the news also removes a lot of uncertainty for the players and allows them to focus on matters on the pitch rather than worry about what is going on behind the scenes.[LNB]He added: "There are a lot of factors and distractions off the pitch and I think the main thing for the players is just to stay focused on the football side of things.[LNB]"From the gaffer's point of view, he has taken away all the distractions and allowed us to focus solely on football. That's the main thing and it's great."[LNB]Rangers have also revealed they are not under pressure to offload key personnel in January in a bid to balance the books.[LNB]This time last year, club bosses admitted they could be forced to part with one of their top players, with Kris Boyd's proposed move to Birmingham only falling through over personal terms.[LNB]Davis believes the current crop of players are capable of more success if allowed to remain together.[LNB]He said: "You see what you read in the media and you know the situation the club finds itself in. But the players want to keep the nucleus of the squad together.[LNB]"We have had a relative amount of success over the past couple of seasons and hopefully we can continue that this year. So hopefully there will be no sales."[LNB]Unfortunately for Rangers, their European campaign ends tomorrow night regardless of their result against Sevilla in the Champions League.[LNB]But Davis is keen to at least end the campaign on a high note with their first European win of the season in Spain.[LNB]He said: "We are coming up against a top quality side in Sevilla and we have to approach it in the same way we have approached the previous two away games in the competition.[LNB]"We've had a couple of good performances away from home and we just look to continue that in a similar way."[LNB][LNB]
