Dailly: Grant will boost Hoops

Grant, who played in midfield for the Parkhead side in the 1980s and 1990s, arrived back at Celtic last week as first team coach to new boss Tony Mowbray and his assistant Mark Venus. Dailly, 35, had a spell working under Grant at West Ham before moving to Ibrox on a free in January 2008. The former Scotland player was released by Rangers at the end of the season but will meet Ibrox boss Walter Smith next week to see if there is any possibility of another contract. But regardless of where he is playing his football next season, the former Dundee United, Derby and Blackburn player expects Grant to fire up the Parkhead dressing room. "Peter was brilliant with me at West Ham and I think he will do very well at Celtic," Dailly said. "I think he could be a manager without any problem but he is made for a number two role. "Peter was the bridge between the players and management at West Ham. "He had the balance between giving players a hard time and having a laugh just right. "So it's a good appointment and Rangers will have to up their game next season." He added: "A new manager coming in to a club can change things around. "Look what happened to Rangers when Walter Smith came back, they went from struggling to winning the championship a couple of years later, as well as being in five cup finals. "That's the difference a manager can make. "I think Gordon Strachan was a brilliant manager for Celtic and I never understood the criticism that he got but a new management team will make it all the more difficult for Rangers to retain the league."
