Cregg boosted by Old Firm shows

St Mirren midfielder Patrick Cregg aims to build on their Old Firm performances against Hibernian as the Paisley side look to finish off Hamilton's Clydesdale Bank Premier League survival bid.

Saints have suffered narrow, late defeats against both Celtic and Rangers in Glasgow in their two games before Sunday's trip to Easter Road. Hamilton won in Leith last Sunday to close the gap at the bottom to nine points and they could reduce it further before their trip to St Mirren Park by beating Aberdeen on Monday.

Cregg said: "Everyone probably thought Hibs would win, but we knew Hamilton are a good side and would give them a good game, and on the day they beat them."

He added: "We just need to try to get as many points as we can, just like Hamilton will be trying.

"We did all right against the two best teams in the league so hopefully we can take confidence from that."

Cregg, like many players at St Mirren, is playing for his personal future as well as the club's with his contract up in the summer.

The former Falkirk and Hibernian midfielder has had no talks over a new deal as St Mirren wait until their SPL status is decided before building for next season.

"Hopefully we can do well individually and do well as a team," he said. "The two come hand in hand."

St Mirren have offered new contracts to Australian midfielder Aaron Mooy and teenage striker John McShane, who has been on loan at Dumbarton.
