Burke: Move south worked for me

The Scotland winger made the move at the beginning of 2009 when he realised first-team opportunities at Ibrox would be limited under Walter Smith. He told the Sunday Mail: "Not every manager is going to like you and vice versa. I've no regrets or anger about what happened at Rangers. "It's just the style of play they need and they showed it works because they won back the SPL. "I just had to get a break from Ibrox. As a football player, all you want to do is play and be involved and that was not happening." Last week, Celtic midfielder Paul Hartley followed Burke in making the move south to the English second tier as he signed a deal with Bristol City. And Burke would recommend such a switch to any SPL player keen on a change of scene. "I'd like to stay here for a long time and I'd recommend this league to any player in the SPL," added the 25-year-old, who made 16 appearances for the Bluebirds last season and scored in the 2-2 draw at Charlton in April. "It's definitely not a step down. Some of the hardest games of my career have come down here. "It's a great league to play in and you're not facing teams four or five times a season which is a bonus. "It's a massive league and more Scottish-based players are realising that. If they can make an impact here God knows what else can happen." Cardiff manager Dave Jones added: "To get Chris for nothing has been the biggest steal of the lot. "He had a rough time and needed to get away. We were delighted to give him a platform."
