Brown confident ahead of Rangers

Rangers may be firm favourites to secure an eighth consecutive Clydesdale Bank Premier League win, but Motherwell manager Craig Brown is optimistic his team can maintain their own perfect record.

Motherwell have won all three away SPL matches this season and have also won cup ties in Iceland and Brechin.

Brown said: "We go to Ibrox with no inferiority complex. I firmly believe that we can go to Rangers and take something from the game. We have a terrific record away from home and it's something we would like to maintain."

Indeed, only Celtic and Dundee United have recorded home victories in the SPL against Motherwell since Brown and Archie Knox officially took over at the turn of the year.

The last time Rangers dropped points in the SPL was on the final day of last season, when Motherwell came from two goals down with a minute to go to secure a 3-3 draw at Ibrox.

Brown continued: "Perhaps our fans are now becoming a little more accustomed to success. Certainly our three victories away from home have given our travelling support fantastic encouragement - anyone that has been to Kilmarnock, Perth or Edinburgh has come back in a happy mood.

"I'd love them to come back from Ibrox similarly cheerful."

Motherwell's away record is built on a solid centre, with defenders Stephen Craigan and Mark Reynolds almost ever-present under Brown, and Steve Jennings and Keith Lasley among the most competent midfield partnerships in the SPL.

But they are also able to hurt teams on the break with the pace of Jamie Murphy, Chris Humphrey and Nick Blackman.

"We will play our normal game," Brown said. "We have a system, and that system is organised but allows our players freedom to create. We won't change that for the game against Rangers."
