Rangers striker Kris Boyd has been told he will not play again this year after straining his left ankle in Sunday's shock 1-0 defeat at Falkirk.

It is bad news for Gers boss Paul Le Guen as he tries to lift his side following the setback against the Bairns but Boyd hopes to be back early in the new year.

"Obviously I'm disappointed, but these things can happen in football," he told the club's official website.

"I was caught from the back by Milne. I tried to play on even though I was in pain right away but it got worse and I realised that I couldn't carry on."
