Boyd hits back at Burley
16 Oct 2008 - 16:25:51
Rangers striker Kris Boyd has hit back at Scotland manager George Burley's claim that he lacked the necessary passion to play for his country.
Boyd quit international football last weekend after becoming frustrated by a lack of opportunities.
The Gers striker vowed not to play for his country again while Burley remained in charge and subsequently came in for criticism from the national manager.
However, Boyd claims he remains committed to playing for Scotland in the future after refuting suggestions from Burley that he lacked the heart to play international football.
"I've shown before that I've got the passion needed to play for my country so I think that comment was a bit below the belt," he told Rangers World.
"I spoke to a few people after the match on Saturday and I felt it couldn't go on any longer. I saw myself as fifth or sixth-choice striker.
"I'm not saying I should have been on the park or I should have done this, but with my track record I should at least have been given the chance to get my country out of the hole they were in.
"I'm not going to get into a war of words with anybody. I said what I felt like saying at the time and so has George."
