Boyd targets return to form

The striker clinched his 30th goal of the season against Hearts at the start of the month but has failed to find the back of the net in his last three outings. However, victory against Dundee United at Tannadice on Sunday would be enough to see Rangers crowned Scottish champions. And, despite being a notoriously difficult venue for Walter Smith's men in recent seasons, Boyd insists he could not ask for a bigger incentive as he attempts to rediscover his goal-scoring touch. He said: "There are always a few clubs you manage to get a couple of goals against and hopefully at the weekend I can get back on the scoresheet. "A lot of my goals are down to my team-mates and how well they've done and how the chances are created for me. "I know as long as I keep myself in the box, they'll be able to find me and I'll be able to put them away." Celtic's dominance over the previous three seasons means Boyd has so far been denied a league winner's medal since his move to Ibrox in January 2006. But, with Rangers unexpectedly back in pole position following Celtic's goalless draw at Hibernian at the weekend, he is determined to see the long wait finally come to an end. He said: "The chance is here now and hopefully on Sunday we can go and and clinch it and everybody can be happy at Rangers. "We are on a good run. When you look at the Hibs game in the second half, we probably did enough to win the game but just didn't take our chances. "You always get games like that. Hopefully Sunday's game will be different and we get the three points that we need. "It's great to be at the top as long as we take advantage of it on Sunday. "After the game on Wednesday night, if you had said we would be two points clear at the weekend, I don't think a lot of people thought we would have been. "We know what's at stake and we know we need to get the victory but it's not added pressure because you need to win every game at Rangers anyway." With a win enough to guarantee the trophy-carrying helicopter will be heading for Tannadice regardless of Celtic's result, Boyd claims Rangers will have no interest in events at Parkhead when the defending champions host Hearts. "We need to win our game, that's all we need to do," he said. "It doesn't matter to us what's happening elsewhere. We know it's in our hands. "You've got to win every game at Rangers so it's not any different come Sunday and hopefully at the end of it we have a league medal." Rangers fell at the final hurdle this time last year when the exhausting quest for a quadruple eventually took its toll and they surrendered the championship to Celtic on the final day. Boyd told Rangers World: "When you look back at last year, a lot of people were tired. On Sunday, I don't think anybody will be tired. "We will be ready to face Dundee United. Last year we were disappointed and hopefully we can use that anger and disappointment to get us over the line on Sunday."
