Boyd snub surprises Gers boss

The striker has been on fine form this season, with last week's double against Motherwell bringing his tally for the campaign to 28 goals. He is also just one goal away from claiming his century for Rangers after enjoying a remarkable goalscoring record since his move to Ibrox in January 2006. However, his efforts appear to have gone unnoticed by his peers and, while Rangers team-mates Steven Davis and Pedro Mendes were shortlisted for the PFA Scotland player of the year, there was no mention of Boyd. "I was a bit surprised," admitted Smith. "I feel that, when you are so far ahead as the leading goalscorer in the country, a nomination would have been in order. But there you go. "The players who have been nominated have had good seasons. "It's just people's choices but I would have thought he warranted a nomination." Players are prohibited from voting for their own club-mates, otherwise Christian Dailly's vote would undoubtedly have gone to Boyd. "I love Boydy," he said. "I'm a big fan of Boydy's. His goal last week was really fantastic. "He does that all the time, he does it every day. I think it's easy to accept his goals as being normal because he does it so often. "But, when you look at his record, it's phenomenal." Rangers will be hoping Boyd is firing on all cylinders again when they face Hibernian on Sunday. By then, they will know if rivals Celtic have stretched their lead at the summit of the Scottish Premier League to four points with a win over Aberdeen. But Dailly is satisfied in the knowledge that Rangers' destiny is still in their own hands for now. "If we win all the games, we win the league," he said. "We know that but it's going to be difficult and there are definitely going to be a few twists and turns. We have to try to win all the games."
