Bougherra: Opportunity may knock

Algeria international defender Madjid Bougherra still believes he could be sold by Rangers before the transfer window closes.[LNB] Gers' title-winning squad has been dismantled this summer following the departures of the likes of Kris Boyd, Kevin Thomson, Danny Wilson, Nacho Novo, DaMarcus Beasley and Stevie Smith in order to help balance the books at Ibrox.[LNB]Bougherra has been consistently linked with a move away although the 27-year-old remains a key element of Walter Smith's defensive plans this season.[LNB]The former Charlton defender is relishing the prospect of Champions League football this term, but feels if the right opportunity arose then he would find it difficult to refuse.[LNB]"Danny (Wilson) is different from me because he is only 18 and has many years ahead of him," Bougherra told the Daily Record.[LNB]"I'm not worried about my position because I have a two-year contract and I'm playing in the Champions League.[LNB]"But I am honest and if a big opportunity comes along for me and also Rangers then why not?"[LNB]Injury restricted Bougherra to just 16 SPL starts last season and, following a shortened close season due to the World Cup, he already fears burn-out.[LNB]Bougherra played at right-back in Gers' 2-1 pre-season success over Blackburn down under and he would rather play at centre-half as the position is less demanding.[LNB]"After the World Cup with Algeria I have had only two or three weeks off and maybe the lack of rest will catch up with me as the season progresses," he continued.[LNB]"Of course I will play where the manager wants me to but I would rather play inside.[LNB]"At right-back I have to go forward and then get back. It's hard out there and I just hope my body holds up throughout the season.[LNB]"I'm a bit tired but I am following a special programme to get fitter. I didn't do much after the World Cup.[LNB]"I'm not a robot and I think back to last season when I got so many injuries, I believe it was because I played so many games for Rangers and Algeria."
