Bougherra happy to stay at Ibrox

The defender claimed at the end of last season he had no intention of walking away from the Ibrox side after helping them clinch a domestic double in the shape of the SPL and the Homecoming Scottish Cup. However, speculation over his future has continued over the summer, with French champions Bordeaux expressing an interest in the highly-rated centre-half. With several weeks of the transfer window remaining, supporters will be uneasy about the interest in one of their key players, particularly with Carlos Cuellar's departure 12 months ago still fresh in the memory. However, Bougherra has once again moved to ease concerns by pledging his immediate future to the Scottish champions. "Maybe the speculation will continue but in my head I am here," said the 26-year-old, who joined the club from Charlton last summer. "I said to people last year that I want to stay. There has been some speculation but I have spoken to the manager and said, 'No'." The Algeria international claims the constant speculation has not been unsettling and has, in fact, benefited him. He said: "I think it's good to listen to speculation that some team wants you. It's good because it pushes you more. "But this season, I want to stay. I enjoy it here, this season we have the Champions League and I need stability." Another fear for the Ibrox faithful is Rangers taking the decision to cash in on one of their prize assets if they do receive a hefty offer but Bougherra insists he has been assured by Sir David Murray his future lies in Glasgow. He said: "I know last year Rangers told me they want to keep me. I spoke with the chairman and he really wants to keep the key players. "I was happy and this pushed me to want to stay. After the speculation, I told the manager I don't want to go."
