Beasley: Win won't mean fame

DaMarcus Beasley knows a World Cup win wouldn't be enough to topple the Jacksons as Indiana's most famous son - but it might earn him a statue.[LNB] Beasley hopes to be part of the USA side that opens its Group C campaign against England in Rustenburg tonight.[LNB]In a group that also includes Algeria and Slovenia, the Americans are tipped to reach the last 16.[LNB]But such is the difficulty 'soccer' has in establishing a firm identity in the richest commercial market on the planet, that even if they go much further than that, Beasley knows it still won't be enough to earn him the ultimate recognition.[LNB]"We don't get too many big names from Indiana - apart from The Jacksons of course. It is a pretty small state," said Beasley.[LNB]"Even if we won the World Cup I still wouldn't be that big a thing. But maybe I would be in the top 10. I might even get a statue."[LNB]And, according to Bolton winger Stuart Holden, if the USA start their campaign in the best possible manner by beating England this evening, it will raise a cheer in a little corner of Lancashire.[LNB]"Owen Coyle (the Bolton manager) likes to keep the mood light in the locker room and he actually joked about this game," said Holden.[LNB]"He said he couldn't wait to watch the match and would be rooting for the USA.[LNB]"Since we have been in South Africa he has sent me another text and wished me all the best. I am sure there will be a lot of Scottish fans like that."[LNB]Holden has confirmed that he will remain at the Reebok Stadium next season and further talks are planned to sort out a contract once the USA's World Cup campaign is over.[LNB]"Both sides have made it clear we want to extend the agreement but it's on the backburner while the World Cup goes on," he said.[LNB]"The day after I got hurt, the manager called me and told me they were going to pick up the option for the next year which is a no-brainer for me.[LNB]"I love it at the club and the Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world."
