Aluko is no diver - McCoist

Rangers manager Ally McCoist has called for a change to the rules which prevent clubs from appealing yellow cards after Sone Aluko was booked for diving in Saturday's 2-1 Clydesdale Bank Premier League win at Motherwell.

The winger went to ground under pressure from goalkeeper Darren Randolph in the box, with television footage showing contact was made. But, rather than earn his side a penalty, Aluko was cautioned by referee Iain Brines, leaving him walking a disciplinary tightrope for the remainder of the match.

McCoist said: "It's something that has to be looked at, because the same thing could have happened in the second half and he's off and you've not even got the right of appeal."

He added: "You can't appeal one booking or another booking or the sending-off for maybe three wrong decisions, effectively. That's a problem and I think we have to look at that.

"I'm not having a go at the referee - I'm just having a go at the ruling. He is telling me that he didn't dive, that there was contact, which I believe."

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall insists his side will focus on finishing third this season and claims the runners-up spot was never a target anyway.

He said: "A six-point gap is of no interest to me, to be honest. We have never talked about second.

"Our main aim at the beginning of the season was to be in the top six. At Christmas, we looked at getting into the top four to get European football.

"With the points we amassed, come February, we were looking at third and since February third has always been our aim.

"If we can maintain that level of performance today in the six games we've got left, I'm confident it will get us enough points to finish third."
