Ally won't dwell on cup shock

Ally McCoist has urged Rangers to learn the lessons from their Scottish Communities League Cup exit to Falkirk.[LNB] The holders were sent crashing out of the competition on Wednesday night by the First Division side, just a few days after an impressive Old Firm derby win over Celtic.[LNB]The Scottish champions now prepare to face Dunfermline in the Scottish Premier League on Saturday and McCoist says his players must prove they have moved on from the midweek disappointment by claiming maximum points at East End Park.[LNB]He said: "We can't really dwell on things for too long.[LNB]"It goes without saying that the result was a massive disappointment but the one thing about being involved at a club like this is that you don't get too long to stay high or stay low, whichever one it is.[LNB]"After the game in midweek, it was a big, big low. Our league form has been fairly good so tomorrow gives us an opportunity to continue that good form.[LNB]"There is no point looking back. As big a disappointment as it was, you look to the future, as you do with all the games.[LNB]"I won't kid you on, it was a massive blow and a big disappointment but we move on.[LNB]"The most important thing is that you learn from the good results and the bad results and hopefully we have learned.[LNB]"We can't change Wednesday night, we can't do anything about the game, but the big thing is that we have to learn from it.[LNB]"I'm looking for a really positive reaction and I think the fans deserve that."[LNB]McCoist made four changes for the clash against Falkirk, with Neil Alexander, Lee McCulloch, David Healy and Alejandro Bedoya starting in place of Allan McGregor, Maurice Edu, Nikica Jelavic and Steven Naismith.[LNB]Asked whether he feels his squad as a whole is strong enough in light of the 3-2 defeat, the Rangers boss said: "That's an obvious question that's going to be put to you after the defeat on Wednesday and I can totally understand that.[LNB]"We effectively made four changes and we replaced four players with four international players.[LNB]"We should certainly be able to say we have players who are good enough and strong enough to come in and play and I firmly believe we do have.[LNB]"I just think the way we went about the game was the problem, not the players."[LNB]McCoist added: "It's a mental thing. I know from experience because I was a player.[LNB]"Unfortunately, you don't go out and carry out every instruction to the greatest detail that you're asked to do. That's life.[LNB]"All you can do, as a coach and a manager, is advise and push people in the right direction and tell them the things that you believe they should be doing in the hope that they do carry them out.[LNB]"That didn't happen on Wednesday and it was an accident waiting to happen when we went about the game in the manner that we did, and that accident happened."[LNB]Meanwhile, McCoist revealed he dropped his interest in trialist Matias Abelairas because he has enough midfielders already.[LNB]The Argentinian trained with the Ibrox side for more than a week and played in a practice game but will not be offered a contract.[LNB]McCoist said: "It was nothing other than we thought we were reasonably well covered in that area.[LNB]"We saw him play against Kilmarnock and he did well, he did fine. We just felt in the middle of the park that we had more than adequate cover."
