Alexander enjoys the action

Rangers goalkeeper Neil Alexander is determined to make the most of a rare opportunity when he takes over the gloves for Tuesday's Co-operative Insurance Cup tie against Dunfermline. The 32-year-old has come to terms with the fact he will almost always be second choice to Allan McGregor and is thrilled to be involved in the third-round clash at Ibrox. He admits being thrown back into top-level competitive action is tough after spending so much time on the bench but says there will be no excuses against the Irn-Bru First Division leaders. "I think I played about a month ago in a practice game at Murray Park and it's tough to come in and try to get to the high standard that I put on myself," he said. "The most important thing is winning the game but, for me personally, I want to do well and do the best that I can. I have a thousand excuses but I'm trying to put them to the back of my mind. "I want to do well, as though I played at the weekend. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. You become a little bit rusty and not as match fit as you would like to be but getting the chance to get a run out at Ibrox is something I'm really looking forward to and hopefully things go well for me."
