Alexander enjoys Rangers action

Rangers goalkeeper Neil Alexander is determined to make the most of a rare opportunity when he takes over the gloves for Tuesday's Co-operative Insurance Cup tie against Dunfermline.

He has come to terms with the fact that he will almost always be second choice to Allan McGregor and is thrilled to be involved in the third round clash at Ibrox.

Alexander said: "I think I played about a month ago in a practice game at Murray Park and it's tough to come in and try to get to the high standard that I put on myself. The most important thing is winning the game but, for me personally, I want to do well and do the best that I can. I have a thousand excuses but I'm trying to put them to the back of my mind."

He added: "I want to do well, as though I played at the weekend. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. You become a little bit rusty and not as match fit as you'd like to be but getting the chance to get a run out at Ibrox is something I'm really looking forward to and hopefully things go well for me."
