Alexander eager to extend Gers stay

Neil Alexander has revealed he is hoping to sign a new deal with Rangers once the club's own future has been resolved.

The goalkeeper, 32, has already held provisional talks with manager Walter Smith and indicated he would like to remain at Ibrox beyond the end of his current deal.

"I've got another year left on my contract and the manager spoke to me just before January and he's keen to extend my contract," he said.

"We had a chat and he wants me to stay on. I told him that I'm happy to be here and would be delighted to sign a new deal.

"We have to wait for things to happen in other areas for the contract to go through and then I'll sit down properly and discuss it and try to get it signed. I've said all along that I love it here and I'm very happy here.

"Obviously it's frustrating at times not playing but to be part of a squad winning titles, winning trophies, playing in the Champions League - it's fantastic to be a part of that."

However, Alexander admits he could be lured away from the Scottish champions if McGregor remains at Rangers beyond the current campaign and he is made an attractive offer from elsewhere.

"I'm really happy here and keen to stay but never say never," he said.

"If I knew that Allan was going to stay and there was a guarantee of first-team football at a good club at a good level somewhere else, then it would be something I would have to consider."
