Albertz: Boyd should stay at Ibrox

Jorg Albertz has urged Kris Boyd to snub any other offers which come his way over the summer and pledge his future to Rangers.[LNB] Celtic have refuted reports they were set to make a sensational swoop for Boyd but the striker is unlikely to be short of clubs keen to land him for nothing at the end of his Rangers contract.[LNB]Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has been a long-time admirer of the player he brought to Ibrox and only failed to land him in January last year when the move collapsed over personal terms.[LNB]Former Rangers striker Shota Arveladze, now manager of Turkish outfit Kayserispor, has also confirmed his interest in the SPL's all-time top goalscorer and Albertz believes he would be a hit at any club.[LNB]However, the man dubbed 'the Hammer' claims there is no better place than Rangers and has been quoted in the past as citing his relationship with Dick Advocaat as the only reason for his own departure when he returned to Hamburg in 2001 after five years in Glasgow.[LNB]Asked where he would like to see Boyd playing next season, Albertz said: "I would like to see him stay and scoring goals for Rangers - simple.[LNB]"I played for Rangers and I loved the club. It was a true love - I wasn't here for the money.[LNB]"I didn't get on with somebody and that's why I left.[LNB]"If you once play for a club like Rangers, in my opinion, you don't want to leave.[LNB]"Every player has to make up his mind but if you have a chance to play for Rangers, you don't want to go somewhere else."[LNB]Albertz added: "Scoring a lot of goals for Rangers is not an easy situation and he has to prove himself every season.[LNB]"It's going to be a hard task to beat that again after the number of goals he scored this season. But he can do it.[LNB]"A lot would maybe depend on who is coming into the club to help him and the team-players around him."[LNB]Boyd has indicated the financial uncertainty surrounding the club - and, in particular, the doubt over manager Walter Smith's future - has caused reluctance to pen a new deal with Rangers.[LNB]"We all don't know what is going on inside the club," said former midfielder Albertz.[LNB]"Maybe he knows a little more or maybe he doesn't know anything either.[LNB]"Maybe he's not sure and that's why there is stuff in the papers about Celtic and other clubs. Time will tell what's happening."[LNB]Reports today suggested Celtic were trying to broker a "big-money deal" to land the 26-year-old, which would have caused arguably the biggest transfer storm in Scotland since Maurice Johnston snubbed Celtic for Rangers in 1989.[LNB]"I thought it was a funny front page in the newspaper saying Kris Boyd was going to Celtic," said Albertz.[LNB]"I don't believe that, I think that must be a joke. So many things about this are nonsense.[LNB]"How can you go from Glasgow Rangers to Celtic? It's impossible.[LNB]"If you want to get better, why would you go there?"[LNB]One place where he arguably could improve as a player is the Barclays Premier League, with newly-promoted Newcastle plus Wolves and Wigan all reportedly interested.[LNB]Albertz said: "If he makes a move down to the Premiership, he will need to prove himself there and he will see whether he can do it or not. It's very hard.[LNB]"Sometimes players you have never heard of go there and they are a big success for a club and then you have big-name players moving clubs and it's the worst move they have ever made.[LNB]"Every player has to make up his own mind - it can work both ways.[LNB]"Kris Boyd is a very good player and the goals he has scored proves that and shows that he's a good player.[LNB]"A lot of other clubs are interested. Where he is going now - he needs to answer that question.[LNB]"A player of his calibre can go basically anywhere if he is scoring goals for fun."[LNB]
