Advocaat would turn down Ferguson
Ferguson's future at Ibrox is in doubt after he was stripped of the club captaincy and suspended without pay for two weeks.[LNB]Ferguson and Rangers team-mate Allan McGregor were involved in a drinking session while on international duty after Scotland's defeat in Holland, while they were also caught making V-signs on the substitutes' bench during last week's win over Iceland.[LNB]Advocaat, who made Ferguson his captain during his spell in Scotland, remains an admirer of the 31-year-old but does not plan to bid for him in the summer.[LNB]The Dutchman told the Daily Record: "I was asked if I would be interested in signing Barry if he is leaving Rangers in the summer.[LNB]"My answer was clear. If I did not have a player for that position then Ferguson would have been one of my choices - but I don't need a player for that position.[LNB]"(Anatoly) Timoschuk has done an excellent job for me and is a real quality player. So, in principle, I have no need for Barry."[LNB]Ferguson is unlikely to be short of suitors if he is given the boot by Rangers, though, and The Guardian claims Stoke would welcome him with open arms at the Britannia Stadium this summer.[LNB]The Potters now look almost certain to avoid relegation from the Premier League and Tony Pulis has already had his scouts working overtime as he begins to draw up a list of possible targets.[LNB]Meanwhile commenting on the Ferguson saga, former Holland boss Advocaat added: "I find what happened strange. But then, I believe Barry has been at the club for too long.[LNB]"It is better for him to leave Rangers and get a new motivation.[LNB]"I think he is still a great player but not for Rangers any more. Walter Smith will realise this because he is a very bright man."[LNB][LNB]
