Queen of the South scored a goal in each half to condemn Raith to a 2-0 home defeat.

Strikes from Scott McLaughlin and Tom Brighton proved decisive as the two Division One strugglers went head to head.

The visitors started well and went in front after 18 minutes, midfielder McLaughlin slotting home from inside the box following good work from Nicky Clark.

The hosts almost equalised four minutes before half-time but John Baird's effort came off the post following a frantic goalmouth scramble.

Raith pressed in search of an equaliser in the second half but were stung with 15 minutes to play when Brighton, a 22nd-minute replacement for the injured Nicky Clark, swept home Mark Campbell's cushioned header to seal the points for his side.
