McAlister leaves it late

Jim McAlister scored two late goals as Dundee beat 10-man Raith 2-0 to move five points clear at the top.

Rovers played the last 25 minutes a man down after Jason Thomson was sent off and McAlister ended their resistance with an injury-time double.

Raith had the better of the first half and Kyle Letheren made saves from Gordon Smith and Calum Elliot while Liam Fox fired wide.

Dundee were dealt a blow after half-time when Letheren fell heavily as he attempted to punch the ball clear at a corner and had to be carried off on a stretcher.

But Rovers' task was also made more difficult when Thomson was shown a second yellow card for tripping Martin Boyle.

Dee pressed for a winner and finally made the breakthrough when Ross Laidlaw fumbled a high ball and McAlister fired home.

Moments later the midfielder rounded Laidlaw to seal a dramatic victory.
