Genk appoint Been as manager

Published: 30 Aug 2011 - 13:00:14

Belgian first division champions RC Genk on Tuesday announced the appointment of Mario Been as their new manager.

The former Feyenoord coach succeeds Franky Vercauteren, the Belgian who quit Genk this month to join Al-Jazira in the United Arab Emirates, a job that became vacant after Alejandro Sabella was appointed the new coach of Argentina.

Been, 47, began his coaching career at Feyenoord in 2000 as assistant to the current Holland boss Bert van Marwijk, before moving on to Rotterdam side Excelsior, NEC Nijmegen, then in 2009 returning to Feyenoord as coach.

The club ended his contract in August last year.
