QPR owner to back boss in transfer market
Published : 25 Aug 2011 12:00:04
New owner Tony Fernandes has told QPR boss Neil Warnock to sign five new players before the transfer window shuts next week. Fernandes completed his takeover at Loftus Road last week and has wasted no time in releasing the funds for manager Neil Warnock to bolster his squad, with Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton set to be the first of several new arrivals in the next few days.
With the transfer window set to shut in the middle of next week, time is running out fast if Warnock is to secure his transfer targets but Fernandes has announced that he will do everything possible to ensure QPR enjoy a successful season on their return to the Premier League.
He told Talksport: "We're looking at about four or five players and in due course hopefully we'll have some good announcements to make.
"It's going to be a tense few days as we try to get the players we want but God willing we'll be able to get them.
"My goals at the moment are short-term to ensure survival and do something that the fans will be proud of. We haven't really got a budget but it depends on the type of player we get, whether he fits in. We're fairly flexible on it but obviously we're not in the same league as Man City and any of those teams.
"West Ham and England midfielder Scott Parker also remains a target but the Hammers are refusing to budge from their £7m valuation of the player.
