Magilton takes up R's reins
03 Jun 2009 - 13:33:28
Queens Park Rangers have appointed Jim Magilton as their new manager on a two-year contract.
The 40-year-old former Northern Ireland international was sacked by Ipswich Town towards the end of last season, having spent just under two years in charge at Portman Road.
The R's were on the lookout for a new boss after axing both Iain Dowie and Paulo Sousa last season.
Magilton told his new club's official website: "I'm really looking forward to the challenge of managing this football club.
"The board are highly ambitious, but they're very realistic at the same time. I've huge ambitions to achieve as a manager though and our aim is to keep progressing, year after year.
"There's a very strong group of players at the club and, with one or two additions over the summer, we can expect to be in a position to drastically improve upon the 11th-placed finish secured last season."
