Gorkss stars as R's move six clear
25 Sep 2010 - 17:04:01
Two second-half goals by Kaspars Gorkss and an Adel Taarabt penalty helped QPR move six points clear at the top of the Championship table as Neil Warnock's team beat Doncaster Rovers 3-0 at Loftus Road.
Meanwhile, Cardiff City are second after edging past Millwall 2-1 thanks to Andy Keogh's last-minute header.
The Lions had taken the lead in the tenth minute when Scott Barron scored before Jay Bothroyd grabbed an equaliser for Dave Jones' team. Millwall finished the game with ten men after Liam Trotter was dismissed.
Watford scored three times in the first 20 minutes as they beat Middlesbrough 3-1 at Vicarage Road. Danny Graham latched on to David Wheater's poor back-pass and fired the Hornets ahead inside 60 seconds, before further efforts by Jordon Mutch and Graham made the game safe.
An own goal by Adrian Mariappa proved to be mere consolation for Gordon Strachan's struggling side.
Derby County moved clear of the relegation zone by thrashing ten-man Crystal Palace 5-0. Alberto Bueno opened the floodgates with the first goal in the 14th minute.
George Burley's team were reduced to ten men midway through the first half when Everton loanee James Vaughan was dismissed and the Rams went on to run riot, scoring further goals through Kris Commons, Bueno, Paul Green and Shefki Kuqi.
Ipswich Town are fourth after coming from behind to draw 1-1 at Scunthorpe United. The Iron took the lead in the 32nd minute when former Huddersfield Town star David Mirfin headed home but Roy Keane's side equalised just before the hour mark when Jaime Peters netted.
Preston North End moved off the foot of the table by winning 2-1 at Coventry City. Billy Jones and Iain Hume scored for the visitors while Lewis McGugan netted twice as Nottingham Forest beat Swansea City 3-1.
Radoslaw Majewski grabbed Forest's third goal in the closing stages before Cedric van der Gun scored a consolation effort for the Swans.
Reading moved into play-off contention after beating Barnsley 3-0 - Jimmy Kebe, Ian Harte and Hal Robson-Kanu all scoring in the closing 12 minutes.
Hull City surprisingly won 2-0 at Norwich City thanks to late efforts by Robert Koren and Tom Cairney, while Leeds United beat Sheffield United 1-0 in a feisty Yorkshire derby.
Bradley Johnson scored the only goal of the match with seven minutes left but both teams ended the match with ten men after Robert Snodgrass and Jamie Ward were dismissed in the closing stages.
The match at Turf Moor between Burnley and Bristol City ended goalless.
On Friday evening, Liam Lawrence and Dave Kitson both scored twice as Portsmouth hammered fellow strugglers Leicester City 6-1 at Fratton Park.
