Duo's return a boost to Rangers

QPR manager Mark Hughes admits the return of Alejandro Faurlin and Kieron Dyer from long-term injuries has given the west Londoners a huge boost.

Argentinian midfielder Faurlin made his first Hoops appearance since January on Tuesday night, stepping up his recovering from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in the 3-0 Capital One Cup victory over Walsall.

He was joined in midfield for the final 30 minutes by Dyer, who came off the bench to play in his first match since the opening day of last season - much to the delight of Rs boss Hughes. He said: "It was important we got the job done and I think we approached it in the right way."

Hughes added: "There were some good positives, like getting 90 minutes into Ale Faurlin. That was really important for us and for him.

"I think psychologically he needed to get over that hurdle of completing 90 minutes, which he did very, very well I felt. Obviously I saw him before I arrived here and I think he was actually injured the day before I got this role.

"That was a disappointment because I had seen him and had admired him from afar, having seen him through the Championship and in the Premier League as well.

"Not getting that opportunity was a big loss to everybody because he would have certainly made a big impact towards the end of last season.

"We certainly missed his guile on occasions. It was a really good performance from him so we're all delighted for him.

"It has been a long road back but he has done everything with great professionalism and he is hopefully going to reap the rewards of that work now. It was good to see Kieron as well. I thought he gave us energy and gave us a little cameo of what he can offer to us this year.

"I am pleased for him as well because it has been a long 12 months and it has been difficult. Hopefully he is back to somewhere near his best."
