QPR manager Iain Dowie believes the acquisition of Latvia international Kaspars Gorkss will help to add even more competition to his squad in the new season.
The 26-year-old has penned a three-year deal at Loftus Road after completing his move from Blackpool for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Dowie told the club's official website: "Kaspars knows we intend to play good, attractive football, and he wants to be a part of it.
"We've signed an international defender who has a great physical presence, good pace and is comfortable on the ball. He's an ambitious lad who wants to take his game forward.
"He had a fantastic season last year with Blackpool and I consider him to be an excellent acquisition for now, and for the future.
"His presence adds great competition for places across the backline, and that's exactly what I'm after."
Gorkss moved to Bloomfield Road in January 2007 and made 57 appearances for the Seasiders.
