Axed Morocco star Taarabt shows his class

Axed Morocco playmaker Adel Taarabt set up the only goal with a delicate pass as bottom club QPR stunned title contenders Chelsea 1-0 in an English Premier League midweek clash.

Taarabt was left out of a provisional squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa this month with new coach Rachid Taoussi not prepared to gamble on the talented but temperamental midfielder.

ENGLAND

PAPISS CISSE (Newcastle United)

Senegalese striker Cisse did his best to prove there is life after his Newcastle team-mate Demba Ba, who is in talks to join Chelsea, by scoring the opening goal against Everton with a looping header. The visitors stormed back, however, winning 2-1 to leave Newcastle just two points above the relegation zone.

VICTOR ANICHEBE (Everton)

Anichebe was Everton's match-winner at St James' Park, tapping home a low cross from Nikica Jelavic on the hour to give David Moyes' side a 2-1 win. The Nigeria striker, who had only been on the pitch for around 90 seconds, has now scored four league goals this season.

ADEL TAARABT (Queens Park Rangers)

Moroccan playmaker Taarabt teed up Shaun Wright-Phillips for the 78th-minute goal that gave bottom club QPR a shock 1-0 win at Chelsea. When Chelsea cleared a corner to the edge of their box, Taarabt cushioned a delicate pass into the path of his team-mate, who drilled home from 20 yards to move QPR within five points of safety.

EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR (Tottenham Hotspur)

Adebayor scored in the 51st minute as Tottenham recovered from conceding an early own goal to win 3-1 at home to Reading. The gangly Togolese frontman met Aaron Lennon's lofted right-wing cross with a powerful header to record only his second league goal of the campaign and put Spurs 2-1 up.

GERVINHO (Arsenal)

With Arsenal drawing 1-1 at Southampton, Gervinho was summoned from the bench in the 74th minute as manager Arsene Wenger pushed to extend his side's winning run to five consecutive matches. The Ivory Coast international could not prevent the Gunners from dropping points, however, with a low shot into the side netting the best effort he could muster.
