Sturrock wants nerve-free finale
Argyle's place in next term's Championship will be confirmed if Norwich fail to beat Reading on Monday.[LNB]But if the Canaries win, Plymouth will need a victory at home to Barnsley next Sunday to be sure of avoiding the drop.[LNB]Sturrock said: "Let's wait and see what happens on Monday. I won't watch the game. I'll be cutting the grass or playing on the golf course - anything to keep away from the radio or a way of hearing the score.[LNB]"I would love to have charged over the line. It looks like we're going to whimper over the line, but the important thing is that it's in our own hands.[LNB]"We started the day with three teams below us - Norwich, Barnsley and Nottingham Forest - and we've ended it with them still below us. It's a four-horse race and I'm confident."[LNB]But for two misses by Ashley Barnes, Plymouth would have left London with the win they needed to guarantee survival.[LNB]Barnes failed to hit the target after keeper Radek Cerny flapped at a corner, and he squandered an even better chance eight minutes from time.[LNB]Paul Gallacher pounced on a mistake by Damion Stewart and after the Argyle forward's shot was parried by Cerny, Barnes fired the rebound over the bar.[LNB]And Gallacher squandered a golden chance in injury time, when he squirmed away from Kaspars Gorkss only to shoot straight into Cerny's arms.[LNB]"I'm happy with the performance but gutted we didn't get the win," Sturrock admitted.[LNB]"We created chances without taking them. People can get excited when we're in this kind of position and people I wouldn't usually expect to snatch at chances are doing so.[LNB]"Ashley Barnes needs a goal. He's the kind of player that if he gets one will kick on from there.[LNB]"The important thing is not to dwell on it. We've got a result of sorts and have to take the positives from it."[LNB]Meanwhile, caretaker coach Gareth Ainsworth refused to comment on whether he had been in charge of picking the QPR team.[LNB]Ainsworth, installed by Rangers supremo Flavio Briatore following Paulo Sousa's recent exit, said: "It was a typical end-of-season game - a boring 0-0 draw.[LNB]"It was the same old story for us. Defensively we have been rock solid but it would have been nice to score more goals this season.[LNB]"It's something we maybe need to look at for next season, although not simply in terms of personnel. The players we have here are capable of better.[LNB]"The real positive for us was Patrick Agyemang returning. It was a good workout for him and I think he did well.[LNB]"He was told he wouldn't play again this season when he tore his thigh muscle in January. But he looked so strong in training we decided to put him in, and he played for longer than we expected."[LNB][LNB]
