Samba sorry for horror show at Fulham

Queens Park Rangers centre-back Christopher Samba has apologised for his performance in the club's 3-2 loss at Fulham but says fans have no right to question how much money he earns.

A club-record signing from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala in January, Samba was at fault for both of Fulham's opening goals on Monday as QPR slipped to a defeat that left them seven points adrift of safety in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old Congolese defender conceded a penalty from which Dimitar Berbatov opened the scoring in the eighth minute before giving the ball away and enabling the Bulgarian to score his second goal.

An own goal from Clint Hill put Fulham 3-0 up and although QPR hit back through Adel Taarabt and Loic Remy, they could not find an equaliser.

"I'm really sorry I let the side down," Samba wrote on his Twitter account, @cs4christsamba1 late Monday.

"Really upset with my 1st half performance I can't say sorry enough to all the supporters, won't give up."

Later, he added: "Before I go tonight I just wanna say I see a lot of you talk about I shouldn't say sorry, well when I'm wrong I'm wrong I hold my hands up.

"Then 2nd of all to all you keep talking about 100k (£100,000 $152,000, 119,000 euro) performance, tell me what is a 100k performance? we as players go out and give our all.

"We do are best every week, what I get paid has nothing to do with any of you, as for my price tag I didn't put a price on my head, grow up pls (please)."

Samba also reacted angrily after at racist comments addressed to him on the micro-blogging site.

The defender reportedly cost the west London club £12.5 million ($19.7 million, 14.6 million euros) but the club denied reports he was earning a weekly wage of £100,000, saying the actual sum was much lower.

As well as Samba's defensive shortcomings, manager Harry Redknapp was also irked by his decision to turn himself into an auxiliary centre-forward as QPR chased the game in the latter stages.

"When they had 10 men and we are murdering them with 11, you have got to play," Redknapp said.

"Suddenly he goes up front and we think we have got to start lumping it -- that is not how I wanted us to finish the game. I wanted us to use the extra man and play."
