QPR close in on Chris Samba, David Bentley, Jermain Jenas and Peter Crouch

Deadline day just wouldn’t be the same without Harry Redknapp, and the Sky Sport interviews from the front of his 4x4.

Already this morning, the QPR boss has spoken openly and honestly, as ever, about the comings and goings at his current club.

With veteran Ryan Nelson leaving for a coaching post in the MLS with Toronto, Redknapp has moved to bring in Chris Samba as a giant replacement.

Harry describes Samba as a ‘massive signing’ – in more ways than one – and he is expected to put pen to paper later today following a medical.

Also on the Redknapp radar are his former Tottenham charges David Bentley and Jermain Jenas, whose careers have stalled in recent seasons.

The Rangers’ boss is still hopeful of bringing Peter Crouch back to Loftus Road and hasn’t given up on West Brom star Peter Odemwingie.

It will be a frantic day of transfer activity, but Sky Sports pundit Alan Smith reckons Harry is right to make dramatic changes. Jamie Mackie will not be going, according to Harry.

Despite being renowned for his deadline day moves, Harry is not a big fan.

He said: “It is not a day I particularly enjoy. I would much rather be in a position where we are safe in the league and I don’t need to bring anyone in.”

Sadly, for QPR and Harry, he does need to make changes to change the course of Rangers’ season – and no doubt there will be one or two more front seat interviews with Harry before the day is out.
