QPR appeal on Derry red rejected

Queens Park Rangers's bid to have midfielder Shaun Derry's suspension overturned was turned down on Tuesday after the Football Association rejected his plea of wrongful dismissal.

Derry was given a straight red card after being adjudged to have fouled Manchester United's Ashley Young during Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

Replays suggested Young had been offside prior to the incident and that Derry had made minimal contact with the United player.

However QPR's bid to have the dismissal annulled ended in failure, the Football Association confirmed in a statement.

"Queens Park Rangers midfielder Shaun Derry will serve a one-match suspension with immediate effect after his claim of wrongful dismissal was rejected by a Regulatory Commission," the FA said.

The decision means Derry misses QPR's match against Swansea on Wednesday as they continue their fight against relegation.
