The R's signed the 18-year-old defender after he was released by his hometown club Portsmouth and spent time training with Bognor Regis Town. His impressive form in the reserves prompted second-string coach Gareth Ainsworth to make him skipper and invite him to first-team training. He told the Portsmouth News: "Being released by Pompey was devastating and afterwards I felt like giving up but QPR signed me up and it couldn't have turned out any better. "The next aim is to start making some first team appearances. We're back in training on July 1 and I'm really excited with a new manager (Jim Magilton) to impress." Oastler is confident QPR will have a successful season despite the Championship being a tough league, and added: "There are a few big clubs in there now and I think with the squad we've got we are good enough to get promoted. If we can get it right we can definitely challenge."
